Ultimate UK Motocross Resource Guide - Clubs, Tracks and More

Quote Sports Insurance - Ultimate UK Motocross Resource Guide - Clubs, Tracks and More

While UK motocross is in a good place at the moment, with a large number of clubs and tracks available to those starting out or returning to the sport, navigating the scene is not always easy. Resources can be difficult to find and clubs are not always listed in the obvious places. There are also several governing bodies to choose between.

To help riders, we have created the ultimate UK motocross resource guide, compiling an extensive list of clubs, tracks, forums and magazines to help you find exactly what you need.

Motocross associations

Several associations currently operate in the UK, which can make things confusing. We recommend checking out any governing bodies with clubs in your local area and learning more about how they support riders, members and regional events.

ACU - Auto-Cycle Union

The ACU, established in 1903, is the internationally recognized National Governing Body for motorcycle sport in Britain (excluding Northern Ireland). A founding member of the Federation Internationale Motocyclisme (FIM), it represents 23,000 licence holders and 550 member clubs.

It oversees a wide range of motorcycle disciplines, including motocross, trials, enduro, grass track, and speedway. The ACU is responsible for high-profile events such as MotoGP, World Superbikes, the Isle of Man TT Races, the Motocross of Nations, and Trials Des Nations.

AMCA

The Amateur Motor Cycle Association (AMCA) was established in 1932 and is one of the oldest off-road motorcycle governing bodies in the world. It has played a crucial role in the sport's growth in the UK and is home to approximately 100 motocross clubs. The remaining 100 clubs on its books focus on other off-road disciplines.

AMCA supports riders of all ages and abilities and sanctions nearly 1,000 events every year. It provides clubs with event infrastructure, management, administration, and financial support and is equipped to help address local issues such as noise, access, and insurance.

BSMA - British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association

The British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association (BSMA) is a confederation of clubs dedicated to promoting youth motorcycle sports. With more than 50 years of history, the association is well-established and BSMA clubs host local events every weekend. The BSMA also conducts a National Championship that is open to all licence holders, as well as an inter-club team event.

The BSMA boasts a team with extensive event management experience, providing clubs with the necessary expertise and support to meet increasingly complex legal obligations.

SACU - Scottish Auto-Cycle Union

The Scottish Auto Cycle Union (SACU) is the national governing body for motorcycle sports in Scotland. This covers a range of disciplines, including motocross. SACU oversees more than 40 affiliated clubs, organising more than 180 events annually across 94 venues, including some in partnership with Forestry and Land Scotland.

It issues competition licences and offers training for officials and coaches. It also emphasises inclusivity and aims to ensure accessibility for all demographics and socioeconomic backgrounds by working with clubs and partners to reduce participation barriers.

Motocross clubs

With a healthy motocross scene, the UK is home to a large and diverse array of clubs. While new clubs are always being set up, older organisations do occasionally close down. This can make drawing up a comprehensive list of clubs challenging. With this in mind, we’ve worked hard to create an up-to-date and extensive list of current UK clubs.

If the list does not contain a club in your local area, we recommend heading to the MX track section, searching for your nearest track and then getting in touch with them. They should be able to point you in the right direction.

ACU-affiliated clubs

The ACU operates a useful Club Finder tool on its website. This allows you to search for affiliated clubs in your local area and within a certain radius of your home. All entries feature contact information, including addresses, phone numbers, websites and emails. The site also includes information for clubs in other motorcycle disciplines.
